JUNO BEACH, FL -- - The first Surfers for Autism event in the Palm Beaches has taken place. The festivities started Sunday morning and continued throughout the day.
Surfers for Autism, provides children with the disorder the chance to interact with their peers and families, in a safe environment with highly skilled and trained surf intructors.
"We've been doing this for quite some time now all over the state of Florida, this happens to be the first annual for this community, and they brought it. I talked to some of our other committee members that travel around with us and this looks like it's the second or third annual. This community has really, really, really embraced this," said Don Ryan, Surfers for Autism CEO.
"Surfers for Autism is a great cause, there's hundreds of families out here. These children hardly speak at all, but after they come out of the water, they say a few words or even a couple of sentences and the parents faces light up, it's an unbelievable experience," said Sean Kirby, owner of Kirby's Bar and Grill.
The next event will be held along the Treasure Coast June 19th at Stuart Beach.
