Partly to mostly cloudy skies will cover south Florida for the rest of the day, with high temperatures ending up in the low 90s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop through this evening, and drift slowly from west to east. Some very heavy rainfall is possible, and a few thunderstorms could be strong with gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Evening thunderstorms will continue to drift from west to east across the area, but rainfall chances will decrease after sunset. Overnight, our skies will become partly to mostly clear with lows in the low to mid 70s.

On Monday (Labor Day) our rain chances will decrease a little across the area. With easterly winds building in, the highest rain chances will be along the coast in the morning, and then inland during the afternoon and evening. Skies will be partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 90s.

Much drier weather is expected Tuesday through the rest of the week. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s under partly cloudy skies each day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible every day, with the highest chances along the coast each morning and inland each afternoon.

In the tropics, the remnants of Tropical Storm Gaston could regenerate at any time over the next day or so, and it could become a Tropical Depression before the end of the long holiday weekend. Although the computer models greatly vary on the strengthening of Gaston, most seem to agree that it will be in the general vicinity of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola by next Friday. From that point the general consensus seems to be that it will move through the Caribbean south of Cuba. We will watch this system very carefully this week, and keep you up to date on its progress and movement.

In the southern Gulf of Mexico, an area of showers and thunderstorms is showing some signs of organization. There is a chance that this area could develop into a Tropical Depression before moving northwest into Mexico over the next couple of days.
